Time Out Market Cape Town

Time Out Market Cape Town brings the global Time Out Market concept to the V&A Waterfront, and it is the first of these curated food halls to open on the African continent. It occupies the heritage Old Power Station building on Dock Road, a large space right on the harbour, where 13 kitchens run by some of the city's leading chefs and restaurateurs are arranged around shared communal tables. The idea is simple: the best of Cape Town's food scene gathered under one roof, with diners free to graze across cuisines in a single sitting.

The line-up spans wagyu burgers and grilled meats, Mexican tacos, sushi and ramen, Indian and Cape Malay street food, Italian pasta, wood-fired pizza and artisanal ice cream, alongside three bars, a dedicated wine bar and a bubbly-and-oyster bar. A cafe opens early for breakfast and coffee, making the Market a genuine all-day spot. Upstairs there is a stage for live music and cultural events, while the quayside terrace seating takes in the working harbour.

It is free to walk in and you order and pay at each kitchen individually (the venue is cashless, so bring a card). There is no published price list, but expect mid-range Waterfront pricing of roughly R120-R280 per person for a main and a drink, with sharing easy across the group. It is an easy, low-effort outing best suited to a relaxed lunch, sundowners or a casual group dinner rather than a sit-down fine-dining experience.
