Leisure V&A Waterfront · Atlantic Seaboard

The Watershed

Housed in a bright, double-volume building beside the Two Oceans Aquarium, The Watershed is the V&A Waterfront's celebration of South African creativity. More than 150 makers occupy curated stalls and design studios across an upper and lower level, showcasing over 365 local brands. Whether you're after hand-thrown ceramics, beadwork, contemporary jewellery, leather goods, textiles, art or distinctly Cape Town curios, this is the place to find work made by the people who designed it.

The market doubles as a showcase for emerging local talent, with a dedicated incubation programme helping small design businesses find their feet. That means the mix of goods stays fresh and genuinely original rather than mass-produced tourist tat. Cafes and casual eateries are dotted through the space, so you can pause for coffee or a bite between browsing. It's pram- and wheelchair-friendly, well lit and undercover, making it an easy, weather-proof stop on any Waterfront visit.

Entry to The Watershed is free, so you can wander as long as you like and only spend on what you choose to take home. It's open every day from 10am to 6pm, and its location next to the aquarium and a short walk from the Waterfront's main shopping and dining areas makes it simple to combine with the rest of a harbour-side day. Allow an hour or two to do it justice, longer if you're a serious shopper or want to chat with the makers.
